Staff Picks: Mandy's Fave Spring Beauty Items

Mandy, our resident beauty guru has been collecting some of her favourite products for the past month or so. These are the items currently stashed in her makeup bag that she recommends that you try as well! These products are perfect for the warmer spring weather.  They're all light, moisturizing and long lasting!

1. Beauty So Clean Cosmetics Sanitizer Mist (C$20.00)
This product is so handy! You just spray this on your brush, lipsticks, compact powders etc to disinfect your make up on the spot. What I love about it the most is that you can use it on powder products like a pressed powders or eyeshadow, without ruining the integrity of the product. A must-have in my make up bag!

2. Guerlain Meteorites Perles Illuminating Powder (US$51.75)
I am totally and utterly in love with Guerlain Meteorites. This has long been a cult product but I always thought it was just a glorified highlighter/setting power. I finally caved and bought it and let me tell you, it’s the best highlighter I’ve ever used. It gives you that nice glow without looking like you actually have anything on. It also smells amazing. I don’t wear foundation, so I swipe this on my cheekbones to make my skin look more refined.

3. L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm (US$7.95)
I’ve been a little lip balm obsessed. I was on the look out for something that’s highly moisturizing with a very slight hint of color. I found that L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm is affordable and smells amazing.

4. Laneige Water Sleeping Pack (US$23.68)
I’ve been really into keeping my skin nice and moist lately. I find that my skin breaks out if it’s at all dry. Laneige’s Water sleeping pack is different from other treatments/masks I’ve used. You apply a thin layer of this gel on top of all your serums and moisturizers overnight and just wash it off in the morning as usual. TA-DA! You wake up to plump and moisturized skin. This is kind of my lazy day treatment for my skin. I just apply and sleep. This is a pretty handy product to have for your skin is feeling dull and you’re feeling lazy. I even got Alexandra hooked on this stuff!

5. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain (C$34.00)
A lipstick, lipgloss and stain in one? Need I say more? The color payoffs with these little babies are amazing. You apply one thin layer to stain your lips and apply a second to get that glossy effect. The formula goes on quite watery but thickens up to a glossy consistency and keeps your lips nice and moist for a while. I can’t wait to try out more colors.

6. NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (US$24.00)
Ever since I started taking cod liver oil (which I totally love, read more here), I’ve become a bit more oily. On a day to day basis, I usually just do eyeliner and no eyeshadow so I never thought to use an eyeshadow base alone. But my eyeliner was getting all smudgy around midday. I got a sample of this Nars Eyeshadow primer and decided, why not? I tried it, fell in love and purchased a full size right away.  Once you apply this stuff, nothing slips or slides on your eyelids, it really does stay all day! Another trick I have for this product is if I have any scarring or imperfections I want to cover, I apply a bit of this product first, then let it set and conceal. This helps the spot stay hidden all day.

What are some of your favourite spring beauty products?

I am very interesting in that illuminating powder! I don't wear foundation either and on days where I also don't want bb cream, I use something similar by Physician's Formula. I'm excited to give this one a try though :) Thanks for the post!

@AlexJC: thanks girl! That's the word I was looking for!! "dewy"!! Sounds way better than "the wet skin look" LOL! :)

@Mandy: mac strobe cream has antioxidants!? I didn't know that!! I have it but I never use it cuz ...I don't know why. I think mac foundation and the now low quality eyeshadows turned me off mac so much that i don't want to use any of their products :( I did pick up 2 of their lipsticks not too long ago and they're gorgeous shades. And I saw this really good review on their double mascara - two wands in one mascara type thing. I didn't catch the name!

@everyone: how the heck do girls get the flawless skin yet dewy look??? I've tried mixing a bit of Benefit Sun illuminizer thingy with my foundation (looks like a nailpolish, has the word "SUN" on it) a - it makes me look greasy! My Bobbi Brown Skin foundation gives a gorgeous dewy look, but it's not full coverage. I want full coverage dewy, without looking cakey or greasy. Is that too much to ask for?

@amanda_orly - There's a place called Amour that sells the Laneige products. Alexandra and I went recently and they had a special going on! You should check it out if you're around.

@ Shuey, @prettyrainbow @petitechouxx - The Guerlain meteorites are amazing. It's a bit pricy but it will definitely last you a LONG time. On April 15, i believe, Guerlain's has a new collection called Terra Azzurra by Emilio Pucci... So the meteorites will come in a gorgeous pucci print can! I can't wait. let me know if you guys try it out!

@Becky - Another good liquid base product that I (and many others) love is Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfectors. They use to sell them at Holts, but they no longer carry the line. I believe you can find them online. Another good liquid option is Mac's Strobe cream.. it's also pack with antioxidants. MAC's mineralize skin finishes are also similar to Bobbi Brown's Shimmering Brick.

Last month I was so into the "sheeny" look. You know, the young "wet skin" type look? Ok, that sounds gross, but you know what i mean! Anyways, I read some good reviews about Guerlain Meteorites so I went and tried their warm toned shade. I didn't love it. I really wanted to love it! I wanted this to be the one thing that I dust onto my face to give myself the all over glow...but it didn't do that for me :( It looked like I had glitter on my face.

Silver lining: I found my now favourite Bobbi Brown shimmer Brick (in bronze). I can apply the 'sheen' just where I want it with this baby :-) Not exactly what I was looking for, but close enough.

How do those models get the moist (but not sweaty, just sheeny) looking face?? Huh..
